HIGP encourages applications from energetic students wishing to join our research institute in partnership with the Department of Geology and Geophysics. We offer M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Please refer to our Personnel Listing and Research Areas for more information on possible project ideas. Before applying, we encourage you to contact faculty members directly for specific details and funding opportunities.

Obtaining an application:
Prospective graduate students wishing to work with HIGP faculty are admitted to the University through the Department of Geology and Geophysics in the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST).

There are graduate fellowship opportunities available to qualified students seeking other kinds of funding. These examples are listed as a courtesy and are provided for information only without endorsement by HIGP/SOEST/UH:

National Physical Science Consortium: Provides full funding (up to 6 years) for female and minority students seeking doctoral degrees in the physical sciences. See http://www.npsc.org for more information and application.

NASA Graduate Student Researchers Program: Awards fellowships for graduate study leading to research-based master's or doctoral degrees in the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. Visit http://fellowships.hq.nasa.gov/gsrp/program/ for more information and application.

National Science Foundation -- Graduate Research Fellowships: Provide three years of support for advanced study in the mathematical, physical, biological, engineering, and behavioral and social sciences. National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowships: Approximately 9% of the fellowships are awarded to Geoscience students annually. Visit http://www.asee.org/ndseg/ for more information and online application.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security -- Graduate Research Fellowships: Provide one year (renewable for two additional years) of support for graduate degrees in the physical, biological, social and behavioral sciences including science policy, engineering, mathematics, or computer science.
