Welcome to the "history pages" of Future Flight Hawaii 2001 Summer Program. Future Flight Hawaii was founded over 10 years ago with the intent of using space to catalyze student interest in science, technology, and the future. Future Flight Hawaii was initiated as part of the programs offered under the then Office of Space Industry, Dept of Business, Economic Development and Tourism as a means to
develop scientific literacy using space themes and activities and as an opportunity to develop a new visitor niche market. Six years ago, the
program was transferred to the Hawaii Space Grant Consortium at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, which manages and sponsors the FFH summer programs as well as an array of school year programs including school visits, family science nights, and teacher courses and workshops. We have used FFH concepts and themes in the DOE space conferences. For the year 2001, 3 programs were offered to students ranging in grades 2-7.
