Explore the efforts of each government organization for preserving the coral reefs.

Break students into three stakeholder groups and assign each group to the role of a government organization involved in the Executive Order 13178 (2000 year): Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Coral Reef Ecosystem Reserve

Ask students to think about the following questions and  complete the Activity Sheets:  Exploring the Government’s efforts in establishing the Executive Order

    • What are the reasons to establish the EO for the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Coral Reefs?
    • What are the roles of your group?
    • What efforts did your group undertake to preserve the coral reefs?

Ask each group to present their main roles and efforts of the government organizations that they investigated .
