Ground Photos of Mt. Pinatubo

Here we see Steve (at left) and John taking temperature measurements of one of the streams we studied. We were amazed to find that many of the streams had temperatures in excess of 50 degrees centigrade! The water is heated by the still-hot ignimbrite sheet, so that at times it is very difficult to walk across the bigger streams as you almost get boiled! We plan to obtain Landsat 7 images of the area to see if we can spot the thermal signature of the hot water.
