Mt. Pinatubo - November 1999

As part of a NASA-funded research project, Pete went to the Philippines in November 1999 to conduct some field work on Mt. Pinatubo volcano, which had a major eruption in June 1991. Along with Steve Self, Harold Garbeil, Ronnie Torres, and John Bailey, he spent ten days doing field work in support of a satellite remote sensing project that is investigating the rate of erosion of the ash deposits created during the eruption. This work also supports the Shuttle Radar Topographic Mapping mission, and the deployment of the NASA DC-8 aircraft during the PacRim 2 flight of the TOPSAR radar system.
