The Hawai‘i Geothermal Digital Collection digitizes and disseminates data and information relating to geothermal exploration and development in the State of Hawai‘i and participates in the National Geothermal Data System (NGDS) project. The collection includes historical photographs, maps, videos, and geothermal documents (reports, journal articles, proposals, brochures, etc.).

The historical items are hosted here, with videos linked through UHM’s Sinclair Library.  Currently, over 1,000 digital documents are freely available in two online locations:

  1. The Geothermal Collection, in University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s institutional repositories ScholarSpace and eVols.
  2. AASG Geothermal Data Repository, doe-gdr-logo_with-identifier  a national respository associated with NGDS.

Initial data collection, digitization, organization, and interoperability were completed in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) through the NGDS project. Private and public agencies and organizations provided the hard copies of the digitized documents, and these organizations included the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa; Department of Land and Natural Resources, State of Hawai‘i; Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism, State of Hawai‘i; U.S. DOE; Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO); the Hawai‘i State Archives; and more.
