Progress Updates

The Humu‘ula Groundwater Research Project drilled two test holes in the “saddle region” between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes and retrieved two continuous sequences of rock core, each of which was thousands of feet long. Retrieving the rock core samples, the team processed, categorized, and logged them. From March 2013 through November 2015, Drilling Manager Eric Haskins chronicled the team’s effort in project in his blog:

Humuula - Liliana uses the wet saw to cut a piece of rock core so it can be placed in the core box without wasting any storage space.Eric Haskins lab rock Humuula

Humuula - Liliana, Or, and Roger (from near to far) log boxes of core from their workstations in our rock lab.
